What will console games look like in 10 years? Even Microsoft President Brad Smith is just as confused as other gamers.
Yesterday, Microsoft announced that it has signed a 10-year contract with Nintendo to bring Xbox games to Nintendo players. In addition, Microsoft has a 10-year partnership with Nvidia, which brings its Xbox PC games to GeForce Now cloud gaming.
Then Smith was asked: What about ten years from now? Are there any potential deals now that would ensure that this agreement may be renewed?
Smith responded: “Right now, none of us can really predict what the most popular form factors in games will be in ten years’ time, and whether consoles will still play the role they play. Who knows? “There may be someone else standing here in 2033.”
Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard is still in progress, and in its latest defense statement, Microsoft said that Sony PlayStation has a 70% share of the global console market, while Xbox has only 30%, and Sony has long been in a dominant position.
