Which is better, minidp interface or HDMI interface? What’s the difference?

HD output revolution pioneer: HDMI interface HDMI high-definition multimedia interface (English: High Definition Multimedia Interface, HDMI) is a digital video/audio interface technology, it is a dedicated digital interface, suitable for image transmission, it can transmit audio and audio and video signals at the same time, the maximum data transmission speed is 5Gbps, without the need for analog-to-digital or analog-to-digital conversion before signal transmission. HDMI can be used with Broadband Digital Content Protection (HDCP) to prevent illegal copying.

The HDMI interface can not only meet the 1080P resolution, but also support Dolby True HD and DTS-HD Master Audio and other advanced audio formats, while HDMI supports EDID, DDC2B, therefore, the device with HDMI has the characteristics of plug and play, so that the signal source and the display device automatically “negotiate”, automatically select the most suitable video/audio format. HDMI interface is smaller than DVI interface, DVI cable length can not exceed 8 meters, otherwise it will affect the picture quality, HDMI line can transmit 15 meters over a long distance. Only one HDMI cable can replace up to 13 analog transmission lines, which can effectively solve the clutter and entanglement of cables behind the home entertainment system.

New challenges to HDMI: Both DVI and HDMI transmit differential signals in a minimal way by converting signals to TMDS, but LVDS (Low-Voltage Differential Signaling) has long existed in notebook computers. And the launch of the Display Port interface also perfectly solves this problem. Now, Display Port is widely supported by the industry, mainly due to its two advantages: first, it has advantages at the negotiation level, it uses MPA (Micro-Packet Architecture); Secondly, it uses portable devices such as notebooks. By using the Display Port interface, the complexity of the connection is greatly simplified.

As for the difference between Display Port and HDMI, we know that HDMI was first developed for the specification of CRT, which inherits DVI’s core technology TMDS, which is essentially still an extension of DVI. The video content of HDMI, DVI, and UDI adopts the real-time private line transmission mode to ensure that there will be no blocking phenomenon when the video traffic is large. In contrast, Display Port was originally developed for LCD, using the “Micro-Packet Architecture” transmission architecture, video content is transmitted in packets, which is obviously different from DVI, HDMI and other video transmission technologies. The advent of HDMI replaced analog signal video, and the advent of Display Port replaced DVI and VGA interfaces.

The relationship between DP and HDMI is as follows:

DPMIs interface is better, the main reason is that HDMI due to bandwidth limitations, unit time can only transmit up to 30 frames of images, and DP does not have this limitation, so, in high resolution (3840 * 2160), DPMI interface is better, in 1080P resolution, there will be no difference.

The difference between HDMI and DP is that HDMI can transmit up to 30 frames of image frames per unit time, while DP has no limit.

High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) is a digital video/audio interface technology, which is a digital interface dedicated to image transmission, which can transmit audio and image signals at the same time, and the data transmission speed can reach up to 4.5GB/s.

DP interface, that is, Display Port interface, which is the interface for transmitting high-definition audio and video streams. The external distance can be up to 15 meters, although this distance is slightly inferior to HDMI, but the relevant connector and wiring specifications are ready for future upgrades, even if the future Display Port adopts the new 2X rate standard (21.6Gbps), there is no need to redesign the connector and wiring. In addition to enabling connections between devices and devices, Display Port can also serve as a data interface between devices and even chips and chips.

The MINI DP interface with the Thunderbolt interface differs as follows:

The main difference between the Mini DP interface and the Thunder Bolt interface is that Thunder Bolt has a data transfer function (PCI), while MINI DP does not have a data transfer function.

Thunder Bolt is a composite interface, which can be understood as it can provide PCI-E to external devices Mini-DP and only supports display; Thunder Bolt currently takes the form of a Mini-Display port interface on most platforms.
